When fox first came on the air this morning, they broke to some female reporter near the last shooting. She said the cops got a little break yesterday, when they found a shell casing in a heavily wooded area near the school.A reporter must have brought this up today at the first briefing, because the cop said they couldn't go in to the evidence they got from yesterday.
I think all these shots are being taken on the ground, and this one was farther then the rest. That bullet that hit the kid had lost alot of energy,or it would have exited. The maximum effective range of the 223 on human targets is around 300 yards, thats what they told us in basic,so this shot was more than likely about that distance.
And this guy has a clear mind, and probably some formal training,he knows how to slip away.

If in fact they did recover an expended shell in the vicinity of the school, a half way decent forensic lab should be able to at least get the firing pin indentation marks from it. They might even be able to raise some finger prints. The firing pin indentation signature leads one then to speculate on the feds starting to "print" each and every firearm before it leaves the factory or dealer. Is that good or bad?

The just said about 340 yards.

VERY interesting - I'd missed all that information. That's a long distance to shoot from and still retain any accuracy, which makes this guy all the more frightening. Thanks so much for the post.

"And this guy has a clear mind, and probably some formal training, he knows how to slip away."Then don't you think that he would also be smart enough not to leave tell-tale brass at the scene? Twice?

I think all these shots are being taken on the ground, and this one was farther then the rest. Then how is he getting the gun to and from his vehicle? I'm imagining at this point anyone spotting a guy/guys carrying anything remotely similar to a rifle would alert authorities.

That's my understanding if your concern is immediately disabling an opposing combatant. However, if you just want to inflict injury that will probably prove to be lethal, eventually, you can work at longer distances, limited by the bullet drop. 500 yards would often be lethal.
