Maryland Sniper Shootings Update Thread

It's 6:30 a.m. EST and we're waiting to go to the second press conference providing media and local updates on the Maryland sniper shootings. To date, the 13 year old boy has survived the evening and seems to be improving. Fox News mentioned that his aunt is a nurse. The police briefing at 6:15 a.m. mentioned Todd Beamer's Let's Roll comment and police are urging people to use caution, good judgment, but remain strong and try to continue with everyday life as much as possible.

Police had a search warrant last night (didn't say for who or where) related to the sniper shootings, but the search did not provide any information to LEO.

Just heard on Donahue that they are not even releasing the race of the 13 year old shot, anyone seen that mentioned? Only thing I've heard is that the aunt is a nursing supervisor of some sort...

They have not released that, but dollars to donuts he was African American. His Aunt is a Pediatric Intensive Care Nurse at Children's Hospital of DC, where he was flown from the store-front medical facility, where she drove him (preventing his death from ex-sanguination). It was Kitty Corner across the intersection.

I just hope he continues to improve. His life will not be easy after this, if he makes it. Taking out his appendix makes him a severe diabetic. Removing his spleen is not good, but not fully sure of the implications of that. That bullet fragmented and chewed up a lot. I can't imagine he had more than a minute or two to live when he got to the Store Front.

There has been much speculation and open statements about this murderer, most of it centered on his military training and incredible marksmanship.

I doubt that this is the work of a military trained sniper for a number of reasons, primarily the choice of weapons and the ranges from which the shots were apparently taken.

In fact I am not yet convinced that this is the work of international terrorists. Facts still point strongly toward local psychopath. Just my opinion, but I don't see this as international.

Has anyone mentioned if the shooter is forming a pattern or symbol out of his shootings just as the boy did not to long ago with the pipe bombs in the mail boxes? I believe he was making a smiley face.

Standing next to a guy with a 30-06 barrel on a contender at an outdoor range was my misfortune. I can't hit a damn thing with a handgun. I once watched as a state cop tried to put down a big buck with two broken legs from a car strike. From 30 feet the guy had to empty his gun and reload before he got a headshot. Shooting a handgun is not as easy as people think.
