So what's free trade about having a bunch of greedy union thugs crippling the economy and putting thousands of innocent people out of work? What's free market about the ripple effect of people who are already higher paid than most corporate executives?

If we want to talk free trade, then the owners could go out and HIRE people who would be willing to work for $80,000 a year plus full medical coverage instead of being forced to wait for the nod from people who are afraid of technology.

People choose to join a union, even if a job is "closed shop." Going into that situation, a worker knows that the union will bargain on his behalf with management.

As far as "greedy union thugs crippling the economy," that seems to be pretty nice negotiating fodder, don't you think? But seriously, I think you would have a difficult time actually supporting the premise that this strike is "crippling" the economy.

I agree the owners could go out and HIRE some people that would work for $80,000 a year, plus benefits. Hiring people costs money. Lots of money. Not only do you have the actual costs associated with the hiring process, (interviews, management wages while they review the files, etc), you have training costs, attrition, etc. Obviously someone has done some cost/benefit analysis and decided that negotiation is the most economical resolution to the dispute--even if that includes a work stoppage during a lockout. All of this is great and part of a free market.

No need for help from Big Government. Nothing to see here. Carry on.

We don't have 'free' trade, greedy corporate executive thugs have destroyed more wealth and lost more jobs than these longshoremen and took hundreds, no, thousands of times more compensation than these 10,500 workers.

What's free market about the ripple effect of people who are already higher paid than most corporate executives?

What's the ripple effect of the wealth lost and wealth stolen by corrupt or just over compensated, incompetent corporate executives?

Greedy union thugs crippling the economy, huh? Putting thousands out of work? The economy was already in shambles long before this LOCKOUT began. Perhaps we should focus on something that truly has an impact on our economy. How about our friendly neighbors to the south, and the practically open-border policy the U.S. maintains. 10,000 dockworkers locked out for 2 weeks, or... 30 years of illegal immigration, many illegally obtaining welfare, healthcare, and many other benefits meant for "citizens". You do the math.....
