Sacred Falls case may lead to new law

State Attorney General Earl Anzai said the only way to protect the state from future claims such as the one upheld in the 1999 Sacred Falls landslide may be to pass a law exempting the state from liability.

"I suspect that we'll have to go to the Legislature and get relief to be sure that the state doesn't get sued every time someone gets hurt, and not only in wild areas," he said last week.

Hawaii is becoming an odd place.

Unionization has been the financial blood of unskilled workers for decades, thanks to the likes of Patsy Mink and Dan Inouye.

Yet we see one of the first attempts to reign in frivolous cases against the state of Hawaii for "Acts of God".

Hawaii may be the first state to restore a bit of order and common sense to its legal system, for every ignorant and emotional case against any business, regardless of size, costs the citizens more than they know.

In economics it is called the "Multiplier Effect"...
