Zig: The Autobiography of Zig Ziglar is the featured work on tonight's Booknotes on C-Span. Ziglar is a "motivational speaker" who says that he "loved" Ronald Reagan and that Clinton was a "tragedy". An odd choice for Booknotes perhaps, but interesting because of such strong stands by Ziglar in being willing to put his politics and religious beliefs on the line as part of his exhortations to others. On now and later at 11:00 pm edt.

I've got some of his books. I don't consider him a mere "motivational speaker." He has definitely been a big influence on me.
Just a few of his phrases which I live by...
"Your attitude is more important than your aptitude."
"There's no such thing as a lazy person; he's either sick or uninspired."
"When you put a man on the dole, you deny him his dignity and when you deny him his dignity, you rob him of his destiny."
"Your rewards in life are due more to your behavior than to your birth."
"We acquire the characteristics of the people we choose to associate with."

I don't know what to make of Zig Ziglar.
If I didn't live in the Northeast I might understand him better.

Please expand on your comments. Am curious.
For the record, Zig has been one of the best and biggest influences in my life and I thank God for him. I saw in in Colorado Springs this past summer. Ain't afraid of sharing what he believes and telling you why. I appreciate that.

Wasn't there something about "God didn't make the money for Satan's bunch" or something like that? That is the one I remembered from year's back (or at least the jist of it). Also something about acting like you're going on a short notice luxury vacation to Acapulco tomorrow, every day.

Thanks for the heads up...can say from firsthand experience over many years that Zig is as genuine, generous and faithful as anyone I've ever known. He and his wife are humble servants of God who encourage and uplift others. In a world where too many people are always working an angle
(what will I get out of it?)they are nothing short of lavish in giving of their time and their hearts.
Zig is THE REAL DEAL!

I haven't read any Zig. Any suggestions where I should start? His autobiography sounds great(just read some reviews on Amazon).

I've heard Zig speak in person, listened to tapes of his, read books etc.
Then a couple of years ago X42 was put on part of the same speaking tour as Zig. First Zig said he would pull out, then he changed his mind, took the money and toured with X42. I lost a LOT of respect for him that day.

Saw it...didn't know anything about him other than his name...it was interesting...he appears to be an honest self-made man.

I totally agree with post # 8.. I saw Ziglar about 20 years ago in Huntsville Alabama. He is a very good motivational speaker. He puts his Christian beliefs to the test.

I remember this - I was also *very* disappointed in Mr. Ziglar. I sent an e-mail and the reply was very weak... Amazing how a lifetime of a good reputation can be soiled by one serious bad decision. But he had every opportunity to reverse the decision and decided to take the $$ instead.... so sad.....

I haven't read any Zig. Any suggestions where I should start?...don't really know enough about him to make any sensible recommendations - maybe more browsing on Amazon would give some good leads.....

I don't consider him a mere "motivational speaker." Me neither. Motivational Speakers are vaccuous. Zig has a heart, a brain, and a pair.

First Zig said he would pull out, then he changed his mind, took the money and toured with X42...I hadn't heard this before - disappointing - he sure didn't sound as though he wanted to spend much time in Clinton's company in the interview tonight......

OK, but let me give my perspective. Zig agonized over this big time and I believe he did the right thing. Here is why.
1. He decided it was worse to LOWER his integrity (by breaking a contract) than to share the stage with the man who personifies LOW INTEGRITY.
2. He also decided that to retreat was to let DARKNESS rule. He wanted to share some light!
At first I was very disappointed in Zig until I heard his side of the story. Made sense to me.
