Another broad-daylight shooting just occurred, this time in Fredericksburg, VA, just off I-95. It's not even on the news yet.
About an hour's drive south of where the Montgomery County shootings happened, a woman was shot in the parking lot of a Michaels fabric store. My wife was in the store at the time. The victim had left the store and carried her purchases to her minivan. She unlocked the minivan and was loading her stuff into it when she was shot. No sign of the shooter.
No one else was injured.
The woman was taken away in an ambulance, condition unknown. Her license plate (which I'm not going to post) indicated that she had several children.

Re Greta -- she actually wasn't bad as a criminal defense attorney here in DC. I know she's a bit of a liberal, but she really does know the criminal process. She'll know who local to have on on this story. I'd stay for Fox to get guests with real knowledge on this. E.g., I'd like to see Dave Schertler or William Sullivan commentate here.

armed themselves with their common, ubiquitous .22's They used more than that. One guy described using his M-1 Carbine, shooting from the Library, IIRC. I'll bet there were more than a few 30-30s too, that being the most common deer rifle of the time.

When I looked at the map of the shootings in this morning's Washington Times, it suggested to me that the perps might well be coming out of D.C., and perhaps in the area around upper Georgia Ave. The second of the two shootings on Wednesday evening was closer to D.C. than the first, and just off Georgia Ave. The last shooting Thursday morning was also on the way to D.C., and on Connecticut Ave., therefore not far from Georgia. And now we have a single shooting Thursday evening just inside D.C., on Georgia.
I suspect that, at the end of all three sessions, the perps were on the way home.

On many rifles, a bipod will cause a shift of the impact point as compared to non-bipod mode.

Randomly shooting victims one at a time is like "emotional heroin" for whoever gunned down five people in suburban Washington, D.C., over the course of 16 hours I suspect the shooter had something more like a 72 Virgin reward in mind, rather than smack.
Two former FBI profilers say the suspects won't stop killing until they're caught.
Or killed by an "innocent bystander". Catching them is going to be darned hard, if only the police particpate.

They held that 9:15 pm shooting under wraps for awhile, didn't they?
They fooled me because I didn't think it was related until you just broke the news to me.

What about installing cameras on the entries to such highways? In most places, they are already there, in the name of "traffic control".

I was on Gretta because she was talking about the terrorist in Portland Ore. One of the nuts worked in the Mayors office. I was laughing so hard I almost missed the press conference. Didn't the Mayor there allow the marxist to loot the town or was that Seattle ?

If TWA 800 was really a terrorist job, they sure didn't talk about it....and it wasn't a self-igniting fuel tank!

with all due respect if you have read the posts, then you would notice that et had already said that he/she would not be replying to fth any more. et posted a link to a thread that had the fbi saying that it was not serial killers. while fth said 'As to the FBI, they are very good and never wrong.' it would appear that fth was trolling. fwiw

I just had a disturbing thought. If the killings really were deliberately diverse, they might have shot that dark-skinned Indian thinking he was black. It's possible they shot that one black guy last night after they learned that the Indian was not a black American, to fulfill some sort of diversity quota.

Duncan says a reward of up to $50,000 is being offered for the arrest and indictment of the killer or killers. ..... ...." How much for their heads or ears? These guys are likley into the 72 virgins bit, they won't be arrested, unless they are disabled first, even then they may go out like a Palistinian or Saudi.

Most of the muslims in the Portland area are law abiding, too. But the mosque that these guys who were arrested today were associated with is listed as one of the most radical in the country.
It's the few on fringe that we need to use our precious resources to watch. I do seem to remember Laurel from the 911 investigations. Hopefully the feds are looking heavily into this.

So the news about that Patrice Lumumba character being an intern for Portland Mayor Katz is getting out. When is Mayor Katz up for reelection?

BTW, how difficult is it for the forensics lab to determine if an empty cartridge was fired from a self-loading gun or a bolt gun? Not difficult, if you have fired case, but apparently they don't. Which leans in the direction of a bolt or break action type gun, but not very far, since if firing from inside a vehicle, the brass would likely stay inside also.
And yes, my H&K (7.62) leaves flute marks, although they are just powder/gas residue, and otherwise beats up the brass pretty badly.

Only problem is carrying or not, its hard to defend yourself against a sniper you never see. That's true, but others may "defend" the next victim by shooting the sniper after the shot gives away his position. Still best not to bring (just) a pistol to a rifle fight.
