I always had a gut feeling that this was some kind of an accident and then Mom and Dad covered it up.
The hangup 'trial' 911 call at 5AM and the note with the amount being the dad's annual salary were too suspicious.

I have always thought that brother Burke did it. An accident of some sort, involving a stun gun and choking to keep sister from screaming out and waking their parents.
And the parents did what they could to protect Burke, being as they couldn't bring back their daughter. My intuition, from Day One.
Bad decision, on their part. Better to face the music than heap all of this suspicion and distrust upon themselves -- and for what purpose?
It could backfire and have a terrible effect on Burke in the long run. Yes, time will tell.

What, that Philippines terrorists would travel all the way to America, then all the way to Boulder, and pick out a little girl and ask for $118,000, break in, abuse the girl, put her in the basement, and not take her away, but leave the note?
I'd say that note was pretty phoney.
My guess is that the perpetrator phonied the note in hopes that the body could be disposed later. House was searched, no girl! Plan was working. But the police or a friend of the perpetrator pushed to look some more, so the note story failed.

The "murder to coverup felony child abuse" theory has some pull to it. "Mother from he__ whacks daughter on head with metal flashlight in rage over bedwetting, panic ensues, murder most foul." The problem is, you can't say "Well, one of them strangled her, and the other participated in the conspiracy to cover it up, so let's juice both of 'em."

"I always had a gut feeling that this was some kind of an accident and then Mom and Dad covered it up."
. . .well, I think that is the most common theory and the only one that makes sense in fact.
Think it was Patsy of course, and I do not think after all this time, that Justice needs to weigh in on this case.
The police blew this case from the very beginning and probably still are. . .in the meantime, at the very least, Patsy and family et al continue to pay for whatever went wrong that night.
. . . and I am over this one for sure.
