Yeah, they talk about karma but when it gets down to it they give us an artillery piece. "Buddhism, a religion of peace." Harrumph!
Oh, "canon" with one "n"? Never mind...

"I've structured this project's strategies to be the exact oppositeto the Dead Sea Scrolls. That entails actually doing research andpublishing it, rather than dickering around for 40 years, or whateverthey were doing."Heh. I think it was called anal retention.
When you think of how cavalierly western
science used to unearth Indian bones,
artifacts, mummies, etc and put them in
a box for public display, or at least how
cavalierly the reigning sensitivty portrays it,
one can see that poking around in someone
else's ancient ways, in this case the Buddhists,
is not freighted with anywhere near the amount of
ox-goring, toe-stepping, sensibility-offending,
error-exposing feelings-hurting trampling
involved in picking through the origins
of something as bristling with heresy-antennae
as the white man's religion.

Mr. Salomon specialized in those arcane inscriptions, which are in Kharosthi, a script based on the Aramaic alphabet. Yes. Very interesting.

Someone should tell our Taliban 'guests' in Cuba about this. They destroyed the giant Buddas, but missed destroying these fragile jewels of Buddist culture.
