ONE OF THE THINGS that makes the observation of politics an enduring if guilty delight - I mean, besides Robert G. Torricelli; he will be missed - is the spectacle of the Republican and Democratic parties committing the same acts of self-destruction over and over.

It's tempting to do so, yes.

But there are doubtless many morons who would take a break from finger-painting on the wall with their own excrement to object to democrats being identified as one of them.

Encarta's online dictionary defines a 'moron' thusly:

an offensive term for somebody with significant learning difficulties and difficulty in carrying out usual social functions

There’s nothing about treason, or sedition, or theft, or treachery or perversion in that definition.

Sen. Paul Wellstone said Wednesday that he is ready to vote against any plan to allow the United States to launch unilateral strikes against Iraq, but he indicated that he would support the use of force if it's approved by the United Nations. "I do not believe we should do it alone," said Wellstone, D-Minn.

So Wellstone is going down. Anybody know what position Harkin is taking on Iraq?
