Last week PBS revisited the much hailed Ken Burns documentary The Civil War, were it recounted that in a last desperate attempt to survive, in what has to be one of historys most delicious ironies, the confederacy conscripted blacks to defend the south. Would it be too presumptuous to assume that Al Qaeda, facing extinction, has not turned to Saddam Hussein?

Now, if the US, the most powerfully armed nation in the world, righteously reacts in such a way as to challenge the entire world, why is it that Senator Daschle and others in the senate cannot fathom the terrorists (any terrorist) aligning with Sadam Hussein to launch attacks against us? The US needs a passé, but the terrorist do not?

More recent history recounts how Armenians while hated by the Greeks are nonetheless manipulated by the Greek against Turkey because they both hate Turkey. The Greeks have rationed thus According to one of the axioms of political sociology, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Turks are our enemy; Armenians are the enemy of Turks. Since we have a common side with the Armenians, it is our duty to help the enemy of our enemy.
Does senator Dashle believe Al Qaeda terrorists to be so virtuous that they fight with one hand tied behind their back? Senator Daschle is willing to gamble that the terrorist are too stupid not to realize that the enemy of their enemy is their friend. The Al Qaeda network has been reported to be scattered across the glove, what makes Iraq off limits? Al Qaedas brand of Islam is perverted enough to justify mass murder; would it make any difference if Saddam is not fasting?
Daschle expects us to compartmentalize. Remember the intellectual pirouettes democrats used to make in odder to preserve the Clinton presidency. This was then - Yes Clinton committed perjury but his job approval means the American people dont want him removed. This is now - Yes Saddam is a menace but the French (UN approval) dont want him removed. I know that comparing Bill Clinton to Saddam Hussein might be seen as a stretch, but if it was up to the rule of law they would both be in jail right now.
In the world of Tom Daschle we are the disconnected dots. The democrats grill CIA and FBI agents for failing to do what they are asking us NOT to do use our intelligence.
