It was just one sentence at the beginning of his withdrawal statement from his New Jersey re-election campaign, but it spoke volumes about Sen. Robert Torricelli. Reviewing his 30 years in Democratic politics, including two decades in Congress, Torricelli said Monday, "I have witnessed friends build families and businesses, sometimes fortunes, and I never had any regret."

Walter Shapiro has rendered a pretty good account of the current situation in New Jersey politics. Yet I find his words, "No longer do national Democrats have to wink at Torricelli's transgressions and feel compelled to invest scarce resources in a hopeless race.", an affront. The media have a track record, where Democrats are concerned,of keeping quiet to see if they, the democrats, can get away with something. When, in the rare instances where they do not, the media come out screaming, such as in this case.

Needless to say, the grace period is never extended to republicans. I personally do not believe that they should let republicans or democrats get away with fraud.

The Senate found the Torch was spending 3 times what he was withdrawing from his bank. In short, a crook accepting bribes. Be gone ye fool.
