You have to wonder what these folks have been telling the kids. "Arms race?" With whom, the Romulans? "Weapons in space?" What weapons? The plans for lasers that might or might not even be able to shoot down nuclear ICBMs?

I guess what I don't like about this is that it puts the idea, unexamined, into the kids' heads that they can get a large group together and dictate behavior to anyone they like, and that the justification for this lies in either the size of the group or the purity of their intent. This is not a good lesson, especially not if their aim really is peace.

You have just described the socialist mentality.

Of course the hardcore communists (including nationalist socialists/fascists) use these naive masses of young people to push their agendas, which almost always ends up enabling policies that embolden the enemies of peace.

This is an irony that we do not have the luxury of tolerating until it gains political traction.
