I don't really expect any description or details about the perp until they determine if he had an accomplice. They wouldn't want to give that person any idea how much they might know, or what his partner might have told them.

Just adding, if I had been on that road with my kids in the car, we could have all been killed in a wreck with the bus. It is hard enough to drive in Calif. without careening buses flipping over in front of you. I know, last Sat. a jeep did that right in front of us. We didn't lose control or hit him, but it was DIFFICULT situation.

Apparently, it is a one year anniversary of the same attack on a bus in the mid-west. Perp attacking the driver causing an accident. Perhaps someone with more time/experience searching can run down the story from last year.

NNY, you are correct. I checked my computer and I don't have the link. In last year's post-911 attack, the suspect died in the crash (seven dead total, I believe) and he was of Middle-Eastern origin.

Just before the attack, the perp moved to the front and tried to get another passenger to move out of the jump seat. Failing that, he kept coming to the front of the bus and asking the time. At some point, he pulled out a "box-cutter" knife and slashed the driver's throat.

Amazingly, the driver lived and had managed to turn the bus off the road before losing control. Authorities determined that there was nothing to be concerned with -- nothing to link the action to terrorism.

Interesting...the AP story linked from Drudge report in the first paragraph that the driver's throat was slashed. In the SFG article by a staff writer that you post, the writer says that the driver was "stabbed."

I'll be interested in all of the details as this develops.

MANCHESTER, Tenn. -- A passenger on a Greyhound bus cut the driver's throat Wednesday, causing a crash that killed at least six of the 40 people aboard and prompted Greyhound to temporarily halt service nationwide. The driver told authorities the attacker used a box cutter.

The driver was treated for a cut to his neck and was stable after surgery, a hospital official said. The attacker, who had a Croatian passport, was killed, the FBI said.

"He just went up to the bus driver and, like, slit his throat, and the driver turned the wheel and the bus tipped over," passenger Carly Rinearson told Nashville TV station WTVF by cell phone from the crash site.

This scum certainly needs his immigration status checked. However, I heard one the investigators on site already making excuses for him. "...if he was under the influence, or has some psychological problems."

This woman (hew name was Nim or Him something like that) at the site was already setting up a defense of the guy. It really doesn't seem to matter anymore what happens in Kalifornica. The perps always turn out to be the victim.

He already has health care at the taxpayer's expense and now I am sure they will provide a lawyer for him. He should be forced to defend himself like that other scumbag Colin Ferguson in New York chose to. And, if he is not able to competently defend himself. Oh, well!!!

The attacker was not Muslim; was Croatian, a veteran of the Yugoslav Wars with PTSD problems and a criminal record. Absolutely fascinating excersize in FR psychology that so many people can have an utterly false, fabricated memory of that bus attack, simply because their desperate desire for it to have been committed by a Muslim completely overwhelmed the facts.

The 29-year-old Croatian man who used a box cutter to slash the neck of a Greyhound bus driver on October the third in Tennessee had fought for the Muslim/Croat army in Croatia's "homeland war" of independence from Yugoslavia in the 1990s.

A Croatian news agency reported that the assailant, whom law enforcement authorities identified as Damir Igric, was a member of the 108th Brigade, which fought in Slavonski Brod in eastern Croatia, where Igric was from and where his family still lives.

The 108th Brigade was made up of Muslim and Croat soldiers and is one of the military units whose soldiers were accused of murdering civilians and destroying Serb Orthodox churches and desecration of Serbian cemeteries.

John HK, I'll admit error when presented with factual refutation. I am also guilty of ocassional factual errors. That being said, I am rarely prejudiced to the point of making up information to fill the gaps. In my heueristic, Muslim background was the salient fact -- especially for an act within days of 911.
