Those greedy expatriates

As if it were not enough for them to drain the resources of this country by sending millions of riyals annually to their home countries while spending very little locally, foreign workers have now learned the technique of bargaining. They bargain in order to satisfy their strong desire for wealth. In doing so, they outsmart even the most talented and able managers.

If you go out looking for someone to help with some domestic chore, you will find yourself surrounded, not by one, two or even three but an army of casual laborers of all nationalities. Each one is shouting loudly in hopes of getting the job. It is natural that with seven million expatriate workers such scenes dominate our streets.

The bargaining begins with each national group trying to win the business by offering concessions so that no rival will succeed in taking the job. Listening to offers pouring in from all sides, you will soon notice remarkable variations in the offers.

Each nationality — Turkish, Indian, Pakistani, Syrian, Egyptian, Bangladeshi or whatever — approaches you with a price that is different.

Certain nationalities have come to be known for their skills in certain fields — Egyptians are skilled carpenters; Moroccans are good interior decorators and Syrians are excellent masons. At present, skilled workers face real competition from those who learned a profession after coming here. This group is always ready to take whatever job is offered for a little money — never mind the quality which is constantly being compromised.

It seems this country has become the largest training camp in the world. People from every nationality come here to learn a profession, find a job and then send the profits abroad.

The Saudi's bring in the foreign workers to do the jobs they don't want to do and then are pissed that the workers don't spend all their earnings in Saudi Arabia? And, my God, they also have the gall to not set fixed prices? This must make no sense to a nation whose collective wealth is based on OPEC price fixing.

One day those spoiled, lazy rich boys will have the rug pulled out from under them and they'll be in a world of hurt. The Saudis can't do a thing for themselves anymore. They import all their unskilled and skilled labor, medical professionals, engineers, IT workers, ect. They don't even extract their own oil.
