Greta Van Sustern is saying that Iraq's Saddam Hussein may light up Kuwait's oil wells. She does not seem to understand that militarily, we "own" Kuwait. What a dope.
TOPICS: Editorial; Foreign Affairs

Does anyone know why politicians and "news" people cannot do their homework, and get the facts straight. They cannot even remember how we're in the position in Kuwait.

I thought exactly the same thing. Cannon fodder if they get within fifty miles of Kuwait. We have lots of troops RIGHT NOW along the Kuwait/Iraq border on patrol. And thats after crossing hundreds of miles being patroled by our aircraft. Absurd.

I just watched the program and either missed that, or you mistook it when she was talking about the Iraqi oil fields being ignited.

she meant Iraq oil fieldsWhy would the Butcher light up his own oil wells? It would be like burning down your own house. Greta was talking about the 760 Kuwaiti wells.

She is talking about a scorched earth policy, such as when Saddam left Kuwait, he lit up the oil wells. If he leaves Iraq or dies, he may order to light up Iraq.

She is talking about a scorched earth policy, such as when Saddam left Kuwait, he lit up the oil wells. If he leaves Iraq or dies, he may order to light up Iraq. Hitler ordered the destruction of canals, railroads, damns and infrastructure in Germany at the end of the War. To say nothing of Paris. Speer spent the last weeks of the War driving around Germany countermanding his orders. Had he been obeyed the recovery of Germany would have taken much longer and the aftermath of the War would have been far more severe. The parallels are sad and a little scary.

Scorched earth policy. Sore loser policy. If he can't have it, you can't have it. Like a guy who kills his ex-wife when she finds a new man.

Thanks for the clarification. Greta mumbles so much, and couldn't beleive he'd light his own assets, that I got it wrong. Thanks.

I think it would be a perfect time to get the environmentalist whackos stirred-up and start touting Saddam as the Worlds' Biggest Eco-Terrorist.
Let's pool our money and buy a bunch of TV time and run commercials with all the video from the last clean-up during the Gulf War. And to top it off we could get the Land Mine Crowd to get all upset about the land mine mess we had to clear up from the last frakkas too. It would be lovely to see all these tree huggers and hand wringers on our side this time, instead of the other way around.

I remember reading the "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich". When people tried to talk Hitler out of it, telling Hitler that it wasn't fair to the German people to destroy what was left of their country, He replied that all the good Germans would be dead anyway, having died defending their homeland. He said because they didn't win, they didn't deserve to live.
