They'd lost everything. Their home and property and everything else. It was all stolen by their own government for one reason. They were white.
They got out with the clothes on their back, a small tapestry scarf and a piece of china. That's all they had to show for a lifetime of honest, hard work.
Oh they got out with something else. Their lives. And considering how many weren't so lucky, that was the most important. They emigrated to the United States with the dream of starting over.

And the liberals wanted to get rid of Ian Smith's white government, not bothering to even take a look as to what the alternatives were.

Moral dilemma: Let everyone starve to death, since Mugabe is banking on us folks to send food and medicine; or roll his a$$ out the door feet first, courtesy of the United States Marines.
It would be hard for me personally to condone a policy of no aid for Zimbabwe, however something has to be done to correct this. Mugabe needs to be shown up to his own people. When his supporters start to starve, he'll be gone....

"hard for me personally to condone a policy of no aid for Zimbabwe, however something has to be done ... " I feel the same way. All aid, in my opinion, should only be food or emergency aid - I don't believe in cash handouts. In Zimbabwe's case, I even wonder about sending food, although I don't want anyone to starve. But anything we send will be propping up Mugabe.

It would be hard for me personally to condone a policy of no aid for Zimbabwe I have absolutely no probelm with supporting a NO AID policy for every country in the world. Please explain why one dollar expropriated from one American citizen should be sent to another country, especially when most of those countries would just as soon see us dead.
Are you aware that every country we are now at war with or planning to be at war with was supported by American aid, and exists only because we made it possible. For example, Afganistan and Iraq.
