Torch has had conversations all morning with McGreevey. Legal problems. Rat lawyers believe appointed candidate would serve until end of year. Then a special election would be called.
IMHO, this is what they are going for. Bradley, Lauchtenburg, Palone named as possible replacements.
Carl says any Rat would win if it isn't Torricelli.
Jane...LAUTENBERG! Sorry, I had to say it. This is very depressing. I hope the RNC is digging into the statutes to challenge this. Just last night some friends and I were toasting to the extinguishing of the Torch.
In one of the Torricelli-Forrester debates, Torch accused Forrester of wrongdoing in his business which was why he was being sued. Forrester came right back and said he had heard of no such suit and therefore Torch must have inside information. In fact, it had only been since he was running against Torch that he had been investigated and accused of wrong business practices for the first time in his career, levelling the charge the Torch had discharged all barrels at him. If a special election is called, it could provide the time to continue the witch hunt to find something that could then be blown way out of proportion to defeat Forrester.
Horridly-flawed analysis on the part of the RATs (as usual :-) Unfortunately for them, Congress, using the authority given to it by Article I, Section 4, set the date of the election.
Even if the RATs are right on this, the special election would need to be concluded and a winner certified prior to 1/3/2003 (the opening date of the next Congress).
