Please don't confuse the people of Seattle, with the rest of the people in Washington State.

The eastern side of the state is agricultural and conservative, but the demographics are against them. There are three very populous counties in Washington State. King County, which is the home of Seattle. Pierce County -- Tacoma; and Snohomish County which lies north of Seattle. These three counties have dense populations and are heavy Democratic strongholds. Which, is why, you can actually win your senate seat (as our two senators have done) and the governorship by winning only three counties in the state.

McDermott is the representative from the district that is Seattle. You are correct, however, in that his traitorous behavior will win him a lot of points with the people who live in Seattle. The rest of us are just as angry as you are.

Some research to see who paid for the trip would yield great fodder for any opponent. Imagine the ad - video of McDermott in Baghdad making his comment, followed by the typical voiceover "paid for by ______________".

The Maggots(Bonior, McDermott, Johnson) go to Iraq and make their treasonous statements and speeches. This convinces Saddam that our resolve on this is weak, and he uses the video of the Maggots to rouse his troops, who thus fight a little harder than last time. Perhaps he launches one or two chemical or biological weapons, believing that he will pay no penalty because we are "divided".
