Aitor Gonzalez wins Tour of Spain after sizzling last leg
MADRID, Spain (AP) — Aitor Gonzalez, a Spanish rider on team Kelme, clinched the Tour of Spain on Sunday after winning the final leg of the 21 stage-race in a sizzling performance.
Gonzalez clocked 47 minutes, 54 seconds in the 41.2-kilometer (25.8-mile) time trial from the Warner Bros. theme park in San Martin de la Vega to the finish line inside Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu soccer stadium.
Gonzalez ousted Spain's Roberto Heras of the U.S. Postal team, who had a 1:08 lead going into Sunday's stage.
Heras came in second overall and the third spot also went to a Spaniard, Joseba Beloki of ONCE-Eroski team.
