...because we have a real President, who knows what to do in situations like this.
Jumping in conclusions before getting the facts,is the least I expect from this President.

Well, if you are asking me, I am no expert,
but it looks like Youranuom is a transliteration
of the word for Uranium in the language
of some former Soviet Republic.

Okay, thanks. That makes sense. Still, I'll bet we have a couple of smugglers right now suffering from radiation sickness. And I hope those Turkish cops took some precautions, too, before setting up their display. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near that stuff!

I checked out the pictures on the strange website you linked which seemed to show pictures of an apparently injured (or dead) Bin Laden.
I compared the pictures to some online pictures of the real Bin Laden. One of the things that stands out in the online pictures of the real Bin Laden is that his nose points to the right of the peak of his beard under his chin. Looking at his face, Bin Laden's face is very assymetrical, and his nose points to our left (his right) compared to the peaks of his beard under his mouth. The injured man in the website pictures has the same assymetry. It is a strong match on this feature.
The salt and pepper pattern in his beard roughly fits the real Bin Laden as well.
One other feature is less clear. The injured man in the website has a strong lateral crease high on the bridge of his nose. Some of the pictures of the real Bin Laden don't seem to show such a crease, but some might ambiguously. None of the ones of the real Bin Laden I saw had a clear, unambigous crease high on the bridge of the nose like the injured man on the website has.
Does anyone have any good links to real pictures (not joke pictures) of the real Bin Laden from the last few years? Creases can appear for a number of reasons when they weren't there before, including health, exposure to the weather, and a collapse of the small capillaries because of circulation problems. The other features I checked matched the real Bin Laden, but this one seemed probably not to match, but then maybe a better picture of the real Bin Laden might show his nose in more detail.

irrational haters of all kinds belong in the other camp
the golden rule that informs the conscience of rational people is a gift of biology--with or without god's intervention
you do not have the capacity to know how others should worship, but are merely fortunate to live in a place and time where people are encouraged to respect the religious freedom that they would seek for themselves

The uranium wouldn't be super dangerous if handled correctly. But you know that even Marie Curie suffered some ill effects from handling the small amounts of radium in her lab over a period of decades. All the same I wouldn't want a bar of uranium in the car without a good reason. Smuggling wouldn't be a good reason.

How come parts are in english and parts aren't?? I call it Euro-speak. Most folks in the scientific and military comunities use this type of labeling. As long as it is simple, everyone concerned can read it easily.

Are we still, technically, at war with Iraq? I thought there was only a cease-fire in 1991 and NOT a peace treaty.

Any ideas on #9 or the rusty steel "youranium" cannister?
To: woofie
It should be, but given the poor editorial judgement shown by major media outlets, I'm beginning to wonder. The news directors can take two tactics: (1) go with the priorities listed in the fax they appear to receive from the DNC or (2) actually use their professional judgement. My guess is that ABC and CBS are more likely to not discuss this matter. If they do mention it, they may downplay it by putting it 3rd or 4th in the line up. Fox will put it highest in the line up. NBC may put it high in the priority of stories and then Russert will try to move to discuss other Senatorial issues. CNN will continue to cover the story and act like they are breaking the news on the "type" of uranium involved. If the self-interest rules the day, CNN will come up with a breaking news story around 8 to 9 AM EST and let it play (in an attempt to lure from NBC/ABC/CBS/Fox talking heads).

The Talk of the Town
December 13, 1999, p. 44
Although Iraq remains under a strict United Nations embargo, the embargo does not cover medical supplies. Last year, the Iraqi government ordered half a dozen lithotripters, which are state-of-the-art machines for getting rid of kidney stones. (The word "lithotripter" comes from the Greek for "stone breaker.") A lithotripter uses a shock wave to pulverize these painful objects without surgery. Machines like the ones Iraq bought require a high-precision electronic switch that triggers a powerful burst of electricity. In addition to the lithotripters, Iraq wanted to buy a hundred and twenty extra switches. That is at least a hundred more than the machines would ever need
