Thousands of protesters are gathering in London for a mass rally against a war on Iraq.
The Stop the War Coalition is predicting a huge turnout, claiming it could be one of the biggest anti-war demonstrations Europe had seen.
The march, jointly organised with the Muslim Association of Britain, was also focusing on the Middle East peace process.
Hundreds of coaches are ferrying protesters from across the country to join the rally.
The protest will continue from Embankment to Hyde Park where speakers will include London mayor Ken Livingstone, anti-war Labour MPs, trades union leaders and the Bishop of Bath and Wells.
The Stop the War Coalition said that former Cabinet minister Mo Mowlam was supporting the demonstration, although she would not appear in person.
A message from the former Northern Ireland Secretary, being read out at the march, reads: "Go for it. Keep up the fight. It is crucial for the future of our country, our self-respect and our democracy."
Both Stop the War Coalition and the Muslim Association of Britain said supporters included pensioners, schoolchildren, Gulf War veterans and trades unionists as well as people from different religious denominations.
Nice to hear that they're going to demand, under threat of sanctions (on the order of those used on South Africa), that Palestinians quit blowing up Israeli civilians.
... or is that merely part of the "process"?
