PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- A woman tried to force her 10-year-old son out of a magnolia tree by shooting the boy with a BB gun, police said.
Tanya Collins was charged Wednesday with child abuse for the incident, which left a mark on her son's forearm, according to a Pasco County sheriff's report.
The 29-year-old mother of four was released from jail Wednesday after posting $2,500 bail.
Tanya Collins said her son, Casey, scrabbled up a 25-foot tree on Aug. 14 after she told him they were going to the store for milk and bread.
Casey, a fifth-grader, said he feared they were really headed for his mother's fiance, whom he doesn't like.
Collins went back inside the house, grabbed the BB gun and aimed it at Casey, she told police.
"She tried scaring me with the BB gun, but I jumped in the way of the BB and got shot,'' her son, Casey Collins, said Thursday.
Sheriff's officials said they learned of the incident from an anonymous call to the child abuse hot line. Child protection investigators, who determine whether a child should be taken into foster care, were still investigating, sheriff's spokesman Kevin Doll said.

So did the mother vote for Reno or McBride?
To: Draakan
She should'a waited for him to come down, and then whomped the snot outta' him.

Well, if she was certain that it was a low power air rifle that couldnt break the skin, and she was certain that her son was wearing protective eyegear, then this is pretty damned funny.
Oh what the hell, it's funny even if it could've broke the skin. It just isn't fun until someone loses an eye.

BUT, betcha he came down out of the tree after she shot him with the B.B. gun, hope it was a Red Ryder B.B. gun.

When I was a kid we used to play war and shoot each other with BB guns. They do sting a bit when they hit bare skin!

As a kid there was a man who used to hit us with salt pellets if we dared go in his yard to retrieve a baseball. Where it usually landed did more than just leave a mark, we couldn't sit for a week.

Mom shoots him with a BB gun and he doesn't like her fiance! Wonder what he's like?
