It's foolish to be surprised at being conned by a con!

Couldn't possible be true because VastWhosis has been on all the Toogood threads saying how she is guilty of nothing and everyone is being so unfair to her....

Right on. Until you have known a true con artist, I don't think people ever believe what they are capable of. The devastation that follows them is heartbreaking. Everything about them is a lie, everything you do for them is taken advantage of.

My friend took in her broke brother in law. He stole her jewelry, her husband's license and sold her rental car. (Someone came to the door claiming they paid $8000 for it the day after he left.) He rented out her mother's apartment to 4 different people. (They all met when they tried to move in on the same day). This is a nice spoken well dressed guy. When they called the police, turned out he was a professional and they were looking for him a LONG time. This is just part of the story.

These people have an advantage over normal ones, because normal ones are always caught by surprise by someone who just doesn't follow any rules of normal civility. And they will always get you because they are such good liars. In actuality, you are just a mark.

How true.

Those who think the beating was "minor" or non-existent will still wear their foolishness with pride though.

To them, those of us who are enraged are all just voyeuristic reactionaries.
