And personal hygiene.
Oh, WHOOP de FREAKIN DO! Cause, you know, America cares what a bunch of neo-hippie stoners think about like, war and stuff, dude.
Ever seen the police break up a drum circle? Watch it if ever you get the chance. They let it go until the wee hours, the designated "end time" of the event. Then, one by one, they walk up to each thoroughly stoned participant, and shine a maglight into the eyes. The stoner looks up, transfixed, deer-in-the-headlights. "Party's over, son. Time to go home now." And one by one, they each get up, pack up their dumbek or water jug or what-have-you, and scuttle away into the night. The slow, steady strangulation of an upwelling of hippie culture, no resistence or defiance or any acting out of their fraudulent rhetoric. Quite a thing to behold.
What would REALLY be funny, though - and this is why I either should or should NOT be hired by the administration as a consultant, depending on your take - is to give the freaks a taste of their own bizarre fantasies. I'd dress the whole of D.C. up like the infamous "Hammerskins" segment from Pink Floyd's "The Wall." Huge thugs in black uniforms and jackboots marching through the streets, enforcing Order through intimidation. Huge freakin' banners and precision military flyovers. Trucks with huge loudspeakers on their rooftops blaring out deafening government propaganda: "Trust President Bush! Iraq Must Be Neutralized! Capitalism Is Freedom! Socialism Is Slavery!"
The streets would flow ankle-deep in hippie urine, and the reaction on DU alone would be worth the exercise. Then dismiss it all with "oh, that? We were just playing."
The Machiavellian thing to do, of course, would be to plant infiltrators to pelt cops with rocks, burn the flag and torch the occasional car. Do something to provoke the abject loathing of the American public, not to mention a firehose-and-teargas response from the police presence. Then again, likely a redundant exercise, as they're very probably going to be doing those things anyway.
