Republicans Unveil "Declaration of a New Georgia"

A Common Sense Agenda for a Brighter Future

Republican Candidates Unite to Run as a Team

ATLANTA- At a press conference today at the State Capitol, the Georgia Republican Party's statewide and state legislative candidates unveiled their "Declaration of a New Georgia," a picture of what state government will look like when the people of Georgia elect Sonny Perdue as their Governor and give Republicans a majority in the General Assembly in November.

Republican candidates joined to form a united ticket, pledging honest change for Georgia citizens. During the unveiling of the Declaration of a New Georgia, Republicans signed a pledge to:

Strengthen education through higher standards and local control.

Create jobs and economic opportunity through lower taxes and fiscal discipline.

Restore honesty and integrity in Government.

Honor and protect seniors.

Strengthen families and heal communities through faith-based community initiatives.

Build a transportation system for the 21st century by focusing state transportation funds where congestion is worst.

Ensure safer neighborhoods for all through Truth-in-Sentencing.

Protect the equality of voting rights by drawing legislative district maps that respect local communities and protect the equality of voters.

The Republican Party has posted the Declaration on its web site, will e-mail the document to over 50,000 citizen activists, and will distribute one million copies of the agenda to voters between now and Election Day in one of the largest grassroots campaigns in the Party's history.

Georgia Republican Party Chairman Ralph Reed said, "Our Party is unified and our candidates are running as a team for a common sense, mainstream agenda that will improve life for average Georgians and give us all a brighter future. The people of Georgia are hungering for honest change. We pledge that the Declaration of a New Georgia will be our legislative agenda when we have a Republican Governor and General Assembly next January." Reed concluded, "Our team is doing the things that strong leaders do: we are saying what we are for, not just what we are against. And we are pledging to act on the issues that constitute a citizens' agenda."

Sounds like the "Contract with America."

Could this be an actual group of Republicans who want to win elections and create an actual historical change in the polical power structure?

Unlikely! Republicans who actually want to win are rare.

I guess it could happen! Who knows?

Truth-in-Sentencing

What exactly is that? Is it a new idea to screw around with judges?
