While I am a supporter of drug legalization/decriminlization I would be 100% opposed to the plan of giving free drugs to addicts or anyone else.

The problem with demanding addicts pay for their own drugs is where are they going to get the money if they don’t work or are penniless? Naturally, they are going to victimize society or prostitute themselves. Are the hundreds of billions of dollars of stolen materials, the tens of thousands of murdered victims, the millions of assaulted or violated victims, the tens of thousands of infected with fatal illness addicts, a fair exchange for drugs that only cost a cent a dose? Obviously, charging for drugs is the wrong thing to do.

Why is it anytime someone is given something for free, some people object citing it is socialism? There’s nothing wrong with assisting those who fall between the cracks of capitalism. Some people are incapable of competing in the marketplace. Some people cause more harm than good when placed in a capitalistic arena. Some people are mentally incapable of supporting themselves. What then must be done to them?

I find it obscene some people would rather have addicts prostituting themselves or victimizing others for drug money than part with $15 cents a day or $54 a year to help drug addicts.

At any rate, thank you for your objection, I've included it in the article.

Exactly! It really ticks me off that these two proposals get linked together so often. I guess it just goes to show you that even some libertarians (and most conservatives) don't have the stomach to TRULY allow people to genuinely suffer the consequences of their own actions. We have really become a society addicted to the "safety net" It's pathetic!
