Is Congress authorizing funds for the U.S. Department of State or the U.N. Department of Global Governance?
The House will vote this afternoon (ET) on whether or not to spend $8.6 billion for the operations of the U.S. Department of State and related agencies in fiscal year 2003. We urge a "NO" vote.
Heres where your money will be going:
1. $244 million to the United Nations for so-called back dues to the U.N.plus $78 million in U.S. dues that have accumulated since last year. (The $244 million is the third installment of the three-year, $926 million back dues to the U.N.)
2. $726 million for international peacekeeping activities.
3. $820 million for general migration and refugee assistance; $60 million earmarked for transporting, resettling and absorbing refugees in Israel.
4. $891 million for assessed expenses to international organizations in fiscal year 2003; UNESCO being one of these U.N. international organizations.
It also
1. Raises the U.S. share of U.N. so called peacekeeping expenses from 25% to slightly over 27% for two years.
2. Expresses the sense of Congress that the president should rejoin United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
In a surprise move, the House is now scheduled to vote on this massive expenditure of taxpayers money this afternoon! Urge your representative to vote NO. If rejected, this bill would be sent back to a conference committee where we can continue our pressure to remove these enormous sums of money to finance the United Nations Department of Global Governance.
This is short notice but thats how they play the game. They hope we wont have time to get this information to you.
