"I have many fond memories of camping out on the lawn watching the laser show. Blankets, boiled peanuts, and of course sweet tea on a cool summer breeze make for a spectacular evening at Stone Mountain. What better way to enjoy the South?!"

....I've got some fond memories myself!...of more "adult oriented" visits to Stone Mountain, if you get my drift. ....back in the early 60's there was no park there, just a trail running up top....grab your date and a blanket and head on up....whooeee, that place was wild at night!...the wind wasn't the only thing moaning on the top of good 'ol Stone Mountain ;-)

Good luck to everybody!! Stonewalls

Oh, I've got it:

NEENER NEENER NEENER

Is that your theme?

Surely the largest memorial to losers anywhere.

Then we can put you down as opposing the Vietnam Memorial?

And I suppose you feel the same way about the men who died in Somalia under X42's watch? We lost that one, too, remember?

Get back to me when someone builds a statue of Clinton nine stories high.

I am sorry you think Viet Nam veterans are losers.

How long until the NAACP wants that sculpture removed?

You think they'd pull a Taliban? Of course they would.

Based on your record of voting for the guy, Walt, we'd probably find you camped out underneath the thing selling cheap plastic miniatures to benefit the Clinton Presidential Libray fund.

Whom should we honor first among the three heroes immortalized on the mountain?

The stiff incompetent, as cold as a lizard and ambitious as Lucifer? Maybe the Napoleonic blitherer? Or maybe the religious lemon eater shot by his own men?

And the park, what should we choose to remember about that? That it was the site of the christening of the resurgent KKK, or the fact that they have almost no black employees?

I propose the largest memorial to losers
is the Washington Monument.  What he
fought for was largely lost to the gentleman
whose likeness resides in the Lincoln Memorial.

Walt's a troll. It's never substance, just automatic naysay.

Exactly why I no longer engage him in any way.

Over Labor Day my son, who was in Jump School at Ft. Benning, visited Stone Mountain. The grounds were absolutely packed. I was surprised to see a large number of black American visitors, and there were even a fair number of black family reunions going on in the picnic areas. Hey Jesse, eat your heart out! Stone Mountain IS part of our American Heritage.

Just applying your leap of logic to the Vietnam War.

But now that you're on record as differentiating between the conflict and the men who fought, maybe you can see the error of your logic WRT the Stone Mountain memorial.

Your grasp of logic is breathtaking in its shallowness, Walt. Buy a clue.

Compared to some of the things we honor in memorials elsewhere, any three of those men are deserving.

Take DC for example, and its memorials to the petty tyrant and chronic liar known to most as "Honest Abe." A few hundred yards away is a hideous post-modern artistic waterfall arrangement dedicated to an adulterous Soviet-lover.

I have it on good authority that these "geologists" are really explosives experts hired by NAACP and an unnamed outfit based in Chicago to selectively plant C-4 charges. When the charges are detonated on "Black Reparations Day" early next year, Lee will become Al Sharpton, Davis will become Calypso Louie and Jackson will become -- well, that one's a no-brainer.

or the fact that they have almost no black employees?

Are you advocating affirmative action quotas for employment at the Stone Mountain park, Walt?

Your favorite politicians Al Gore, Bill Clinton, Mike Dukakis, and Walter Mondale would likely support you on this one.
