DES MOINES Congressman Greg Ganske, Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, announced today that he has accepted an invitation to debate Tom Harkin on an upcoming edition of NBCs Meet the Press with Tim Russert.
Meet the Press is inviting candidates from what it says are some of the most interesting and competitive races to debate on the highly-rated Sunday morning news show.
The NBC debate series will be moderated by Meet the Press host, Tim Russert.
To date, Congressman Ganske has accepted five media-sponsored invitations to debate. However, the Harkin campaign has not publicly accepted these invitations. The invitations have come from Quad-City Times/KWQC-TV6, Cedar Rapids Gazette/KCRG-TV9, WHO-TV, WOI radio, and KCCI-TV/The Des Moines Register. The Meet the Press invitation makes the sixth.
TOPICS: News/Current Events
KEYWORDS: ganske; harkin; iowa; senate
Suddenly, Mr. Harkin is finding openings in his schedule. Go Figure.

Old Tom "Dungheap" is such a sleaze. I know the slime ball who is his campaign manager, a real class A jerk. If I was Greg, I would go ballistic over the wiretap fiasco. However, I fear that little will help Ganske. He is not a very electrifying candidate. Salier would have been a far better candidate.

At this point in the game, we need to support the Republican in the race. The latest poll shows a 4 point difference, with Harkin below 50% at 45. This thing is winable if we GOTV.

Let me guess..... Russert will ask his favorite obsessive question. "Would you repeal the Bush tax cut?" What a moron.

I will defintely support Greg. He is a nice enough guy even though he is not conservative enough for me. I just think that Bill Salier would have been a far better candidate against a pig like Tom.
What is the break down of the latest poll results?

BTW, the latest poll results I saw on the governor's race showed Vilsak with a slight lead over Gross. Is that the latest info that you have got?
To: Don'tMessWithTexas
The mass email from the Ganske campaign distributed over the weekend says a Public Opinion Strategies poll shows a 4 point spread, with Harkin at 45 and Ganske at 41. The email did not say what the margin of error is, nor did it give the dates of the poll. This current flap will certainly move those numbers.
The last poll I saw on the Governor's race had Viltax ahead by 4 or 5.

Iowa,....Iowa, again,...IOWA.....farmers who

God Fearing church going folks.....and then
there is Tom Harkin......how ?

Russert is part of the media's attempt to make the difference in close races, i.e., assist the liberal/democrat candidate by putting the Republican candidate under scrutiny by the national media. Russert sets the framework for the discussions and controls the agenda on what will be discussed. The focus on senate races reflects how precarious the Dems' position is on holding the majority. The solution: dream up some general pretext to get the candidates in key elections involved on a national level. It is transparent but probably effective.

Why Harkin? Union support. Farm bill. Plus every six years he manages to convince enough people that he is one of them. He'll pull the oh shucks routine to the hilt and trot out a few sob stories to boot.

I cannot explain the God Fearing folks who vote for Harkin.
