No. That's the thing. The .223's and 7.69's are bad only if the rifle has a pistol grip and/or flash suppressor.

My Ruger Mini will do everything the bad guns will do, but it's legal. (GOOOOOOD GUN.) So's the .308 Springfield M1A.

I have never seen .223's referred to as "assault weapons"...is this peculiar to the west coast?
