California: Keep an eye on the race for controller of California

With California's fiscal accounting starting to make WorldCom look like a straight shooter, voters should have more than a passing interest in who is elected the next state controller. The job is the equivalent of being chief financial officer for a major corporation. And like the controller's counterparts in corporate America, the state's CFO is the person who can and should blow the whistle if the brass is cooking the books.

If Davis were to win reelection, having McClintock as controller would certainly provide a lot of entertainment, given the unfolding fiscal trainwreck. Kathleen Connell makes the guv's life miserable as it is. Think what a Republican could do.

And while McClintock has been a lifelong opponent of expanding the welfare state, he has also offered common-sense proposals that could make the programs he's always opposed work more efficiently.

Talk about bias. Why would opposition to the welfare state not normally imply common sense proposals on making government work more efficiently?

What a surprise. The SacBee prefers the Democrat.

I sent an email to all state legislators last year. Most replied with form letters, some later spamming me for campaign support.

McClintock's reply was actually honest and addressed the point I raised. It was a breath of fresh air from the fetid chamber of nonsense the state house has become. If we had a thousand more like him in the state government the California people would live the archetype of freedom and prosperity.

He has my vote for state controller.

I said pretty much the same thing as this article back on Sept. 6th.
