This isn't the first time. I happened to be in London during the first Countryside March in 1999, I think. I got up early and followed the throngs from Blackfriars to Hyde Park. It was awesome. The marchers were entirely peaceful but very angry. They went home thinking they'd made their point but there's apparently no convincing liberals.

Britain has the same urban vs. rural ideology split we see in the Red/Blue election map in the U.S. The big difference is that country folks there are willing to act as a group and raise hell with the city politicians and we're not.

Crap on enough people for enough time and you get the French Revolution (which was as messed up as a revolution can be!)
