EINDHOVEN, The Netherlands - A member of the Hamburg terrorist cell that planned the Sept. 11 terror attacks visited this southern Dutch town a number of times before the attacks, said German and Dutch authorities.
The Dutch secret service also confirmed yesterday that German authorities were investigating the trail of money that flowed through here from Saudi Arabia to finance possible terrorism operations.
A spokesman in the German federal prosecutor's office declined to comment, and it is not clear whether a link has been established between the suspected Hamburg cell member, Mounir el-Motassadeq, who is on trial in Germany, and the Saudi money.

For lurkers that remember the book and movie "A Bridge Too Far":
The code name, Market Garden, was significant. (snip) Field Marshal Montgomery deemed
it necessary that two American divisions and one British airborne division should secure
a series of river crossings at Arnhem. The American 82nd and 101st Airborne would seize
the two southern bridges while the British 1st Airborne, reinforced by the Polish Parachute
Brigade, would capture the northern bridge. At first, all went well.
The 101st Division took the town of Eindhoven, about thirty miles southwest
of Nijmegen, and its bridge while the 82nd, after bitter fighting and mass casualties,
joined an advancing British armored ground force and seized the bridge at Nijmegen.
Funny how history repeats itself.
About 60 years ago a band of thugs bent on exterminating Jews and subjugating the
indigenous Dutch took over Eindhoven.
Now it seems to be happening again.

"Motassadeq, who is being tried on mass murder charges related to Sept. 11, visited Eindhoven in 1999 for a religious gathering, possibly with others from the Hamburg cell."
This is so wonderful that he attended a "religious gathering" oh, how peaceful -- Islamic kumbaya -- no doubt. This was all made possible by a rich Saudi madman.

"This was all made possible by a rich Saudi madman. Yup...and it will not stop until the Saudis are properly dealt with.

It would be interesting to know when the decision was made to go ahead with the Massood hit. This guy's trial may tell us.
