Well, the real key here is to drastically reduce the size and scope of government so it does not require such a heavy tax burden to support it. Reduce the government to only those functions authorized by the Constitution and then a single digit sales tax on everything purchased should be more than sufficient to fund it. Nine or ten percent of our total sales nationally should be enough to defend our borders, pay the administration and the congress, run the courts and post office and still have enough left over to fund the state governments. Maybe you can do the math and let me know.

That is certainly a goal with which I can agree.

10% (or less) has a reasonable "feel" to it, but I'm somewhat puzzled as to how to come up with a crude estimate of the effects. But who knows? It sounds like a challenging task so maybe I'll wade through the budgets and economic data over the next few days and see if I can come up with something halfway reasonable.

LOL!!! I'm sure anything I come up with is gonna be pretty crude and subject to all kinds of criticism. But you got me curious to see if it's possible to come up with something that is at least worthy of discussion. I'll let you know in a few days.
