How is Jack Welch's income or spending habits any concern of the government?

Under an NRST, do you think Jack Welch would be buying a GE appliance (washer, dryer, refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher) retail and pay tax on it???

No way, José.
He'd pluck the most advanced/customized model he could right out of the GE R&D labs and have engineers install it in his home as "test" units.
You and I, we'd have to pay a hefty sales tax to Uncle Sam if we were to buy those same appliances as Jack. But the wealthy would have many resources available to them to circumvent the NRST.

Note to self: don't forget lightbulbs, air conditioning, televisions, etc. etc. etc. GE makes all kinds of stuff that Jack wouldn't pay NRST for.

Good grief. Who cares what kind of a washing machine Jack Welch acquires or whether he gets a freebie from R&D? He'll buy plenty of expensive goods elsewhere and he'll pay way more than his share in taxes. If he doesn't, his heirs will. And I have no doubt that his wealth and investments and philanthropy will do great things for people who are a lot less well off than he is and will continue long after he is gone. Capitalism works.
