[history]
SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. (AP) - A tiger attacked a kindergartner at a school assembly Friday, sending the 6-year-old boy to a hospital.
The tiger was being led out of an auditorium at Baymonte Christian School by its trainer when it suddenly lurched over a row of seats and grabbed the boy by the head in its jaws, Scotts Valley Police Capt. Harry Bidleman said.

Well, I guess the school got a taste of reality when it comes to nature. The genre of environmental idiots and ethologists who paint these animals as "nice" are collectively culpable here. I know Steve Patterson personally, and all I can say is that he will be in our prayers as will the child who suffered this attack.

Santa Cruz, and this was a good Christian School.

Well, you know...no guns, knifes or aspirin allowed in publik skool...but apparently TIGERS are OK.

What was Patterson thinking, bringing a tiger into a school?
Are there not other ways to reward children than bringing wild animals into a school?
If I hear that parents from this school are demanding that the tiger be put down, Patterson will be to blame for the death of an innocent animal.

Oops. Didn't catch that it was a Christian school. I didn't think they had any of those in Santa Cruz. :-)

Tigers are preditors and will behave as such.
Repeat as necessary.

Scotts Valley is not Santa Cruz. It's between Santa Cruz and the Silicon Valley. It's a very family oriented community. A lot of Silicon Valley engineer live there because it is cheaper and out of the hustle and bustle of the valley.

Don't you love all those eco posters with all the animals with big soft eyes all together, as one with Gaia.
They make me puke.

Thanks for the ping, one of my sons went to Baymonte years ago, and before that I lived in Scotts Valley.
Quick thinking on the part of your friend the Principal.

Kinda brings a new twist to "throwing Christians to the lions", doesn't it? 'Pod

Man, rough school. We didn't have any tigers at my school at all... just regular kid-bullies.
These are wild animals and stronger than a human handler. It was irresponsible to have them in such a stressful setting in the first place, especially that close to the kids. I cringe whenever I see handlers leading big cats and letting bystanders pet them. Tigers don't have a "pack" mentality that can be mastered and used in training. They are solitary, and nothing in their instincts is prepared for group interaction.
I hope the child recovers well and quickly!

Scotts Valley is in Santa Cruz County. Most people that live in that county refer to the whole area generically as "Santa Cruz" just as people living in the suburbs of Los Angeles call the whole area LA.

The genre of environmental idiots and ethologists who paint these animals as "nice" are collectively culpable here. Exactly. Instead of displaying these vermin, we should exterminate them.

Did you read the post I put with the thread that I personally know the guy who pulled the kid away from the cat?
I have a Scotts Valley phone number.
The enviro-brainwashing in schools is universal, and includes Christian school programs. It is a requirement for State accreditation. BTW, a lot of upper-middle class lesbians live here too.

Exactly. Instead of displaying these vermin, we should exterminate them. Oh, I think the planet is big enough to accommodate them, but it is true that we don't manage the risks of large predators very well. The reintroduction programmes in operation in this country have had enormously destructive side effects, both on people and the environment.

Is this why they tore down Santa's Village?

One more reason to arm our students. They're fish in a barrel.
