She looks like a fairly attractive woman, and I hope she can get some help. Living on the run can't be easy. I'm not justifying what she did, but with counselling and some proper meds, she could be an entirely different person in time.
I don't excuse what she did, but it sounds like people would hang, draw and quarter her if they could get their hands on her.
She has got to be plenty scared right now.

Though I sometimes slip up, I try very hard not to say anything I can't back up.....:-)

She's not a normal person. She's a "Traveler", a Gypsy. The whole group of them are a bunch of con artists, thieves and grifters. They're born and raised in this lifestyle. She's not going to get any help, at least not the kind you're talking about.

She started off slapping the child, then there was that moment when she just lost it. I'm all for a parent's right to spank a misbehaving kid, but closed fists are the limit. Four or five punches to a four year-old's head is insane.

Satisfies me. Thanks.

I would like to think that she will get the proper help. She's probably going to lose all her kids, her family, everything. And she may have to flee the press for a long time to come.
She may have a drug problem on top of everything else. I don't know anything about American gypsies and I don't condone con artists.
The bottom line is that she is a human being who needs help and part of me feels sorry for her.

Yes, surely he jests. His sarcasm is so subtle, I had to read it several times, then I remembered Jorge from another thread awhile back and concluded it was definitely sarcasm.

It wasn't a silly challenge at all. I see posters here make claims of fact all the time. Often the claimed fact is nothing more than the posters personal opinion which the poster is trying to elevate by claiming it as a fact. The best way to test the claim is request a source.
When a poster cites the source, that poster gains additional credibility with me. If they can't or won't cite a source, I disregard the claim a BS.

I hope everyone like you that can rationalize this event spends some quality time in jail figuring out what child abuse is and isn't, and then when you're old an feeble, your kids abandon you in some crappy nursing home, where they visit you once a year on Christmas to laugh at you. What a mean thing to say to someone you don't even know.
(and who is dying from a terminal disease.)
I was only joking in my post.

The ponytail yanking could break the girl's neck. Your granny ever do that?
To: wimpycat
Of course you're right.
I was playing Devil's Advocate and thinking up the most ridiculous defenses I could for the mother...
I was curious to see how many people would actually take me seriously.
Truthfully, I had the crap beat out of me as child and detest those who bully and abuse defenseless children.
There is no excuse for cruelty.

She may claim that she was really hitting the seat, not the little girl. Will an enhanced video clear it up? The only thing that will clear this up is a medical examination of the child for signs of abuse.
The TV media went wild over this child beating episode all day long
Of course the TV media went wild--because it will make parents afraid to discipline their kids, which ensure the kids will grow up wild in the streets without an education.
It's all part of the liberal destruction of the traditional American family.

A really impresive list of tables!
Link?
Or after compliling such an impressive list, you just "forgot" the importance of actual links to back up your claims.
Any chance you would care to re-edit your apparantly exhaustive research?
Or will you just say do a google?

The mother might have overdone it--but I couldn't tell from that video. MIGHT have overdone it? You SPANK disobedient childen. You do NOT punch them in the face, and you do NOT grab them by the hair to shake their heads.
To: HiTech RedNeck
I didn't see any ponytail yanking. I saw a film clip of a woman slapping/spanking her child.
I also witness a large number of liberals who believe any form of discipline is evil, but have no qualms in mandating adult strangers administering Ritalin and mind altering drugs to children in addictive quantities under the guise of helping children behave.

If this woman is a "Traveler", That was my first thought, too. Then I saw her maiden name being "Gorman",her "Irish" features, the total lack of family cooperation with the police, and I'd be willing to bet on it.
