You know, I think you have a point on the honing in on someone. I have been very careful about how and with whom we discuss homeschooling for just the reasons you have mentioned in this post.

I once questioned global warming in a forum. One of the members, who knew nothing else of me, posted: "That's crazy! You know, I have this sneaking strong suspicion that you're some kind of right-wing Christian fundie militia nut!"

Oh LOL--been there my friend. I have this bad habit of challenging soccer mom types on parenting forums when they make comments that are blatently incorrect or biased. I ended up leaving a list that I had been on for years because I found out a few members had made a little leftist hate list just to sling hash about me and my views. I found out there were some generalizations made about me and my family and these witches were just viscious in their attacks and at that point I did not doubt that if they could find some way to make my life miserable over a difference of opinion, they would. AT that point, I decided it was just not worth the aggrevation and I realized the value of keeping some anonymity on such lists. BTW, my exodus came over an environmental issue as well.
