Sorry. That was a beating. You see the arm raise and lower in a striking manner. Then when she puts the child into the car seat, she starts out with an elbow shot followed by her fist/hand to the head area.

The leg kicking looked to be a sign that she was in pain or pitching a fit after getting struck(have seen many a kid do that when they get hurt/spanked/or not get their way).

You know that's what I initially thought too. From what I've seen I can't see her actually hitting the child. Maybe I haven't seen all of the video but what I could see was very inconclusive. I couldn't make out any actual hits to the child. It almost seemed like she was beating the car seat.

That being said. If she was beating the child, I hope someone finds her and opens a similar can of whoop-ass on this poor excuse for a mother.

I have been around my niece and 2 nephews since their infancy. I know what their legs look like when they are trying to escape or are crying. There is a discernible difference in that, and the relaxed muscled kicking they do when they are happy or bored.

I'm not defending her or anything. From what it sounds like, according to her record, it sounds like this is something she might do. If they are indeed hiding, then it looks like they are guilty.

I have just seen too many parents lifes ruined or threatened by misunderstandings of nosy neighbors.

Hey Tex, there's video on some of the other threads posted about this, and I can't tell anything more from that than from the news last night. It simply ain't clear to me what the hell is going on in that car... And I noticed that little jump the kid makes at the end too. Could be one way or t'other.

hair-pulling part is before she's in the car seat, the little girl is lying half on the seat and half on the floor, you can see mom shaking something -- I thought it was the kid's arm or a toy, but after watching the tape on TV it looks like it was one of her ponytails that she's got ahold of -- she also shakes the car seat really hard at the very end of the tape -- after she puts the bag into the car (and after a few more punches--either at the seat or the child ??) -- I didn't see the FOX site video, just saw the tape a couple times on TV

You know, after I heard the story this morning, and the way they described a "close-knit, mobile" family, I thought they might be Travelers. An 18 year old Traveler murdered a small-town, elderly woman here in Utah when the bunch was passing through.

Photos? I read somewhere (maybe in the Star-Telegram article) that gypsies use aliases and even disguises because they've been involved in so many petty crimes. So, I doubt there are too many pictures, family or otherwise.

And, the family is telling the cops they don't know where the woman is or what she is doing (typical gypsy behavior).

When this woman's arrested, she'll likely deny everything the camera caught her doing, and may even look different from the person in the video.

The mom really isn't landing heavy blows. She's pulling her punches, as it were - smack,smack,smack,smack,smack.
THe child is not going to have any serious injury from it.
Just enough to relieve Mom's own angry feelings and tension. It's abuse, but the child is not going to have any serious injury from it.

That "smack as much as I can get away with" is deliberate on the mom's part - and its the most common type of abuse.

The real issue is, if she would do this in a parking lot, what would she do at home.

I'm simply curious. To all those on here who are angry and willing to beat up this woman for what she did: If you saw this happening in front of you, in a store, or wherever, and not on tape, what would you do?

I'm just curious to know what the typical person would do if confronted with this for real, instead of having the security and relative anonymity of the Internet to shield you from the reprocussions of, say, suggesting this woman be beaten up herself. In other words, would anyone here really beat up on the woman, if confronted with this situation in real life?

If and when you ever have a child, you will find that at that age, they kick their legs while crying.

Looking at the video, I find it highly unlikely that child was doing anything other than either crying or cowering after that.

Heck, I've never seen a kid kicking happily after just one swat on the bottom. They will sit/stand there crying for several minutes. I can only imagine the pain that poor little girl was in.

If I was there and could tell if she was really hitting the girl, I would, at the very least, grab her and pull her off, and perhaps throw her to the ground.
