Congress is likely to give President Bush carte blanche on Iraq, as lawmakers from both parties and chambers on Thursday welcomed the White House's draft resolution authorizing the executive to "use all means" against Saddam Hussein.

Senate Republican leader Trent Lott, R-Miss., said both the House and Senate might vote on the resolution as early as the first week of October, plenty of time before lawmakers go home to campaign for midterm elections.

"The White House's erstwhile nemesis, Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle..."

WOW... That's pretty bold language from ANY news outlet, even FOX. Bold, but accurate.

I'm just not used to such blunt honesty from the media world.

The little Tommy Weasel Daschle really has a Napoleonic complex. He is constantly flexing his little mental muscle. Can't someone take him out behind the woodshed and...

I caught about 20 seconds of Cross Fire last night. Carville was applauding the Democrats decision to give Bush what he wants. Once Bush has his authorization the Democrats feel they can get back to campaigning on the economy. They think the national attention will return to things that will let the Democats hold the senate and win the house.

I can't imagine Bush waiting to act once he has the authority. He must get the UN focused on how to appease the USA not haw to persuade the USA to do nothing. If Bush does not act immediately the UN and the Media will try to change pubic reaction on Saddam to wait and see and inspections show not threat. The Us public would buy the "we need smoking gun bit" to act on Saddam. You know the UN will try to show that Saddam is not a threat. That means Bush must start the war and soon. Bush must and will cast the die of commitment as soon as he can.

That will put all the attention on the war for the next 6 weeks. This time we have the air power ready to go when congress says yes. It is already there for Afghanistan. We will start the air campaign early and long and it will dominate the news for next few months. I think it is very likely that the Republicans will win the Senate back and hold the house. When the choice is I might get laid off for a while or I might get blown to bits by terrorists from Bufalo or somewhere... they lay off under republicans as opposed to terrorist deaths under democrats looks like a good choice to most voters. Democrat reluctance was a very dumb move. Even if the public sees the eonomy as a Demorcat positive. It will not likely be enough to let them win.

The Democrats have come to believe war opposition is one issue they can't win so they will move on to one they think they can win. Their problem is there will be no moving on.

Bush has the deck and the cards. He is not gong to deal them any cards they can play.
