A fascinating article. Although Mr. Escobar has flubbed some things in the past due to his anti-Americanism, I think his reporting on Arab views is accurate.

I don't buy the "intervention for the sake of oil" argument. We'd rather not intervene. Had Saddam never invaded Kuwait, we would not have attacked in 1991. Had the WTC attack never happened, we would not have attacked Al Qaeda, the Taliban, and Afghanistan. But anything that reduces the price of oil is a good side benefit for the US.

But in the end the dreadful escalation of violence between Israelis and Palestinians and Ariel Sharon's wasteland "policies" have in fact facilitated the conditions for an attack against Iraq.

It is absolutely fascinating to read this same pronouncement over and over by those from the Arab world. Refusing to acknowledge that Israel has even the barest hint to a right to defend itself against crazy suicide bombers betrays their hatred of the Jewish people. Their perception of the situation is so biased and twisted, it's amazing really.
