A White House meeting room that is a shrine to two presidents named Roosevelt now contains another historical artifact: Theodore Roosevelt's Medal of Honor. Tweed Roosevelt, the great-grandson of the 26th president, presented the award to President Bush Monday. It will sit on a mantel in the Roosevelt Room, next to Theodore Roosevelt's Nobel Peace Prize. The room also honors President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
Then-President Clinton presented the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military decoration, to Theodore Roosevelt's family in January 2001.
Roosevelt had openly campaigned for the honor for his performance under fire on July 1, 1898, during the Spanish-American War. The action became known as the battle of San Juan Hill.
Tweed Roosevelt said at the time the family would donate the award back to the White House.
Theodore Roosevelt is the only president to win both the Medal of Honor and the Nobel Peace Prize.
First of all, just love the "Then-President" slam...second, I wonder if Willy had to see a doctor after giving the medal...the true honor of it's recipients must have burned his skin, just like a vampire holding a crucifix...
And how befitting for one of TWO presidents named BUSH to accept the medal.

Yep! Just another reason to be glad that Gore didn't prevail....he'd fershur have taken some podium somewhere years from now and pointed out that HE had been a recipient of the CMH.
It's rather like comparing Washington to Clinton. Talk about another pair of opposites.....one refused to be king, the other thinks he is king. And so on, and so on....
He's one of my favorites too. I'd place Reagan well above him though. From what little I know though, one real downside to TR was that he took the view that if the Constitution didn't specificly prohibit him from doing something, he was gonna do it. He was definitely NOT a strict constructionist. I'd say that, all in all, I like the actions that he took.... America is a better place as a result.... but I think that he DID also do some harm by making up his own rules where he felt that the Constitution was a bit too constraining.
TR supported breaking up the "trusts" (large corporations). He was a more effective anti-big business person than Clinton ever was.
TR ran a scorched earth third party campaign full of anti-business "populist" rhetoric. He did this after being Pres. cause he wanted a third term. He caused the defeat of the Republican who loyally served as his VP for two terms. This led to the election of a leftist Democrat who helped push through Income Tax (which TR supported) and the Fed Reserve Bank. TR doesn't fit my view of a great President, though he might be considered a great military figure.
