09/16/2002 Entry: "Opsec," Poster: Mark Rhodes
Today's vocabulary word is OPSEC. That's short for Operational Security for you non military types. For the average soldier in a Theater of Operations it is often summed up with the old addage "loose lips sink ships." We are often reminded to be careful about what we speak about on the telephone, write about on email, etc... The big no-no's besides classified information of course are troop movements, unit designations and capabilities, chains of command, etc.. I need to remind myself of this occasionaly so I don't slip up and post anything that would prove even remotely useful to those with bad intentions. This has become a big issue since our little family oriented 'blog has been graced with so much attention in so little time. I'll re evalute previous entry's and scrub the site of anything that may be interepreted as an OPSEC problem. Our guys work very hard out here to support those brave men and women who take the fight to the bad guys so we'll do our part in protecting sensitive information, won't you do yours?

Excellent blog; excellent message.
You gotta take a look at this blog. Several soldiers are taking part, and they not only are giving excellent on-the-ground reports (better 'n CNN's filtered crap), but they need our support. Drop by, and drop 'em a note!
