NAPLES, Florida (CNN) --The Georgia woman who prompted Friday's terror scare was "flat-out lying" when she told authorities she overheard three Muslim men at a restaurant laughing about September 11 and making suspicious comments, one of the men said late Friday.

>>>Ever hear of " Danish " pastry ? It isn't from Demark ! It's a Hungarian pastry, called delkeral. Changing the name, was the ONLY way, that bakeries could sell it, during and after WW I !
The things you learn here!

OK, John. To whom did they admit this. Their only public comment was a denial. Who is the reporters source. Or, is this just another "fact" reported by the media with no substantiation.
To: nopardons
Will do. I bookmarked this thread so I can post it right here.
To: swarthyguy
Happy to oblige. I'm of Hungarian descent, I know a DELKERAL when I see / eat one. My grandmother told me all about this. She was a great one, for teaching me all kinds of history and all kinds of facts, when I was a tiny child. :-)

>>>>the report on CNN tonight about these men stopping at the first rest stop, talking to the press, then leaving, only to turn around and go WEST with "a man they had met at the rest area who told them he would take them somewhere they could rest before they finished their trip?"
I saw the reporter say that myself, in a live shot from the first toll both past the rest area.
I saw that. BUMP. Did you see the following....
Then they did an interview from some motel nearby. And they had interviews with some family members.
Connie Chung asked the FL local police chief if Eunice Stone was going to be investigated for lying.
The sister of one of the trio made a statement slamming Georgia and the South. Didn't think it particularly helped her case; Georgians certainly are not going to think better of women in hijabs if they heard her. Had to chuckle at how oblivious she was to the impression she was making.

Thanks, and IF I'm wrong, ping me, and I'll happily do the same . :-)

Again, the cops in South Florida are equal opportunity when it comes to traffic stops.
But they are good cops. Imho, writing to Ashcroft isn't the way to solve this problem. Neither the cops nor the media are at fault, and I don't believe Eunice was lying either.
1. The cops in South Florida get the info from the cops in Georgia. What do they do? In this age of the "Amber Alert" and 9/11, of course they are going to release it to the media.
2. The media gets information that the tag on one of the cars belongs to a stolen car. This could have come from the cops in Georgia or Fla., neither of which has immediate access to updated license info in Illinois. This is a common occurrence when agencies in two different states are involved. But of course the media is going to report a story like this, why shouldn't it, given the circumstances?
3. How many middle-aged women have you seen in your life go on TV and make something up, just for the sake of getting on TV, especially when they are not accused of any crime and won't make any money as a result? Perhaps there have beens some on the tabloid shows, but I haven't seen any. I suppose it is possible she could be suffering from some kind of weird mental syndrome, but I think that's highly unlikely.
Of course these guys are going to lie to the media, that's in their best interest, whether they were joking or not, whether they were terrorists or not, and whether or not they lied to police.
What is Ashcroft going to do? Put three people in jail on the word of one person, without any hard evidence? Think about that for a moment, forgetting all the race questions.
Everybody needs to calm down for a couple of minutes.
And could somebody in Florida please confirm that these people were traveling east on Alligator Alley when they were stopped? Thanks. Just want to make sure they didn't manage to drop something off there first.

I've made some pretty imflammatory comments about the utility of these "trained" explsive sniffing dogs. Here some apocryphal evidence that they just don't work with any reliability. False-positives all over the place.
They found no explosives in the van, but bomb-sniffing dogs alerted them to the presence of something suspicious.
Probe Into Threat Against Jeb Bush
prosecutors said sniffer dogs alerted FBI agents to traces of bomb materials in Garofalo's car the night of her arrest. An ensuing investigation produced no conclusive evidence of traces of explosives.
bonus: Prosecutors had initially told the court that a forged French passport was found in Garofalo's car. Last week, prosecutors conceded that upon further inspection the passport proved to be valid.
Garofalo stir-crazy: ex-husband
two bomb-sniffing dogs alerted officials to a pallet of suspicious packages. Authorities reopened the port at 11:30 a.m. (4:30 p.m. EST) after no explosives were found
Suspicious boxes shut down Hawaii port for 3 hours

It was a news blip, Orlando came on and said what I said in 211. Originally they said that and than they changed the story, what it is now I don't know, they will probably pull a Hillary, and stick with the lie, err story ....
To: John Lenin
Could be.
I have to get some sleep, so I'm signing off. I will wait and see if you are right.

If you're still up- Connie Chung interviewed a rep from one of the police depts involved in the situation tonight-she called him ,Director Alvarez. He got upset with Chung for calling this a hoax-he said that the FBI is continuing to investigate and the investigation was far from complete. He also said he believed Eunice.
To: LADY J
If they joked about such things then of course that is wrong. Nobody is going to disagree with that. What proof is there. There is a lot of hatred in America right now towards people that race...she could have lied. We do not know.

I am not assuming that the police lied. If the police change their story then yes they lied. I have no idea...we need to have all of the facts. The news story quoted the police saying one thing earlier...and then the police changing their story later. I have problems with that. We need the facts.

This is a game for them. Hang around and take pictures of our tall buildings, dams etc., make jokes about bombs.
All perfectly legal. They mock us and then whine.
I'll repost this, because it is so true. The ACLU and other AMERICAN lawyers would love to take their cases. In our attempt for decency and law (and money), we forget the barbarians we are dealing with.

I hope Eunice volunteers to take a poly and does it ASAP. She told her story, with no judgements,no embellishments and even offered that they may have been joking. On the other hand-the families and "good doctors" have gone on national tv and called her a liar, a racist, and a publicity hound. Wonder if they would be willing to take a poly?
To: katnip
I believe this woman and I will tell you why, she was in Georgia and said that they were going to Miami, they nailed these guys before they got there, and on the way. Remember where there is smoke there is fire and here we have some obvious smoke. PS Linda Tripp also told the truth.
