Remembering 9/11:
by Jennifer King, Managing Editor

"The Heretical Housewife"

A year has passed since we watched, horrified, as terrorists launched a brutal surprise attack upon the American homeland. In the blink of an eye, moral equivalency was washed away, and hideous evil was unmasked for all to see. After the initial shock wore off, a grim resolve settled over the American people. The spontaneous burst of patriotism that erupted over the land was an outward symbol of the newfound determination of all Americans. We have seen this enemy before, and we have beaten him. We will beat him, yet again.

On September 11th, Americans instinctively understood, again, what it means to be an American. We saw, anew, the daunting responsibilities which are ours to keep. Darkness once more threatens the earth. It seeks, again, to enslave all peoples under totalitarian autocracy. It is merciless and brutally cruel. It celebrates the death of innocents. It crushes them under its fascist boot. Freedom is in peril, and it is once more incumbent upon America to save it.

Americans are a peaceful people, slow to anger, but mighty when aroused. Once risen, they prove an implacable foe, for each American understands exactly what peril his ideals are facing. Liberty. Justice. Freedom. The equality of all people. These are ideas worth fighting for, and Americans have willingly sacrificed themselves throughout history in order to keep them.

On September 11th, innumerable tales of incredible bravery and heroism rose from the rubble. We will never know some of the stories - the business executive who refused to leave his pregnant secretary, the workers who were crushed trying to help a badly burned co-worker down the stairs - but we do know some of them, and they all are testimonies to the shining courage of the average, everyday American under trial.

Virtual strangers aided one another, carried the disabled down the stairs, evacuated their offices tirelessly at the cost of their own lives. Firefighters and policemen rushed into the burning buildings when others were rushing out - their actions saved upwards of 20,000 souls. The passengers on Flight 93, determined that their plane not be used as a missile against their fellow Americans, battled with the terrorists. Knowing that their chance of survival was slim, they nonetheless decided to go down fighting.

On September 12th, we were a better nation. We were a nation who once again remembered our history and our ultimate destiny. It is America - the “shining city on a hill” - that beams the beacon of liberty to the oppressed worldwide. It is America - courageous, generous and kind - that picks up the downtrodden when they have fallen. It is America who liberates the world.

The world of radical Islam is locked in a prison of medievalism and barbarism. Women are violently oppressed, and the young are brainwashed into becoming shaheed. Heaven is merely a brothel and God cherishes - not peace and love - but murder and mayhem. There has been no Islamic Reformation or even intelligent discourse, because dissidents are ruthlessly silenced. That tyranny cannot be allowed to stand.

When America frees the Middle East from the mullahs, the people will rejoice. America will have exported liberty, yet again. ***
