OTTAWA-- Prime Minister Jean Chrétien told CBC-TV in an interview Tuesday night that the United States must accept some responsibility for the terror attacks of last September.
The prime minister said the Western world "is getting too rich in relation to the poor world." The interview was recorded last July and aired on CBC-TV Tuesday night as part of a documentary commemorating the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Chrétien also said he authorized American fighter jets to shoot down a suspect Korean passenger plane over Canadian airspace last Sept. 11, if it became necessary.
"I would have been responsible for killing 300 people," Chrétien said during the program about Ottawa's response to Sept. 11.
The Korean jumbo jet was diverted to Whitehorse with a U.S. fighter jet escort after it sent out a hijack distress signal. Ottawa allowed the U.S. fighters into Canadian airspace when it became clear that Canadian CF-18s from Inuvik could not get to the airliner quickly enough.
The jumbo jet landed safely in Whitehorse. The distress call turned out to be a miscommunication.
In the television interview, Chrétien said the Western world is "looked upon as being arrogant, self-satisfied, greedy and with no limits. The 11th of September is an occasion for me to realize it even more."
Chrétien said he told Wall Street business leaders last year said the West mjust not exercise its power so as to humiliate other countries and peoples.
"When you're powerful like you are, you guys, this is the time to be nice," the PM said.
Transport Minister David Collenette also explainbed that he ordered all Canadian air traffic diverted to Atlantic Canada because of reports that as many as a dozen hijacked jets could still be in the air after the Sept. 11 attacks.

OTTAWA-- Prime Minister Jean Chrétien told CBC-TV in an interview Tuesday night that the United States must accept some responsibility for the terror attacks of last September. So the US is responsible for the lavish lifestyles of the Royal Saudis which is why 15 Suadis (+ 4others) attacked us at the direction of a rich saudi prince (and other rich saudi princes and a rich Iraqi despot, IMHO).
Hey Cretin, your government is greedy!

I think Canada should join the EU - they are cut from the same cloth. Both are sissified, socialized, secularized, anti-American, amoral centers for corrupt thought.

During its leftist episodes, Canada gets called "Cuba du Nord" - the Cuba of the North.

Pansie is a good term and accurate. But you can lump all western socialists under this banner (all of Europe).

Do it then...Chretien is an impotent & pompous old wind bag, his senility is truly showing, it's time to tie him to the ol'tree out back and whack him with a shovel. While you're at it set up Canada as a Republic instead of a Socialist Dictatorship. The rest of Canada has no love for him & his pro queerbec standing.

As Ross Perot would say: This is just SAD. Do the Canadian people really want to go down this road?

That's right, people in Paraquay and Sri Lanka hate us because we're rich. ...but they don't.
Chretien is anti-Western guilt liberal falling for any line that assuages his guilt, and lock-steps with globalist bankers. He's in with the debt-reliefers trying to make us feel bad, so why don't we help the poor by transfering tax moneys to European banks and call it "debt relief."
Plus he hasn't read what Osama says, because it would just confuse things for him.

Didn't I see that Canada has the most fresh water of any country in the world? And all these African countries without water. What kind of cruel selfish b**stards run Canada? Why won't they share? Canada is too well-watered in relation to the poor world.

The prime minister said the Western world "is getting too rich in relation to the poor world." This would explain his socialist policies which are lowering Canada to the level of the third world.

A country's wealth is generally in direct proportion to its adherence to certain basic principles:
Individual liberty, that individuals have the freedom to act in their own interest.
Clear and transparent legal systems which protect the property and investments of people whether or not they are part of the ruling faction.
It is that simple. Countries that do not adhere to those two basic principles stew in their misery generation after generation.
There are ways to help. Foreign investors, in order to protect their investments, will often negotiate the kinds of legal protections they need, which then become the model for similar laws protecting the country's own citizens. The subsequent development often brings about the growth of a class of small merchants and subcontractors, who begin to develop expertise and are progressively less dependent upon the ruling faction for their survival and prosperity.
Charity that is funneled through the central government almost always acts to keep the country in poverty. Charity that goes to NGO's who primarily promote political action, or to direct food relief, also do nothing to alleviate poverty. Only charity that develops infrastructure at the local level, and uses local labor, can have any lasting effect. Specifically, the use of local labor to build water wells and water treatment, roads, bridges, and the like, does have a positive effect, in that it lessens dependence on central government and develops expertise at the local level. And reduces the amount of money raked off to feed official corruption.
Western countries that promote liberty and rule of law as the basis of economy have no reason to feel guilty neither for their own wealth, nor the poverty of others.
Socialists who have promoted statist solutions have every reason to feel guilty, for they have neither contributed to the wealth of their own countries, nor contributed to alleviate the misery of the others. They toil not, neither do they spin...
