Tell us what you think: Is there any rational reason why Emil, Sorensen and Morford write for the Chron?

Welcome to the first in a new series of ChronWatch reader-led discussions. We'll start off the exchange by saying a few words on a particular subject, and then you're welcome to add your own thoughts and comments to this page, using the "Reader Comments" feature below. ...And now for today's discussion topic:
At ChronWatch, we try to understand the motivations behind what the Chron does and doesn't do. Recognizing their adopted target audience explains a lot. But, not all. The level of journalistic talent ranges from marginal to poor, in general, accounts for a lot of what we read. But, not all. For the life of me, I can't rationalize the continued existence of Emil Guillermo, Harley Sorensen, and Mark Morford.
Note the latest by "one-note Emil" bemoaning the tragedy that befell all the American Muslims post 9-11. In one short sentence he expresses his passing sympathy for all who died, and then spends the rest of the entire column describing the horrible life that has been inflicted on the Muslim types in the U.S. since 9-11:
We all mourn the tragic loss of lives of that day, sure. But something else died that day. Especially if you're an American with a turban or a burqa, a beard or an accent, a visa or a green card -- expired or current. It's changed for people with Arab and Muslim names. Indian and Pakistani names. Anyone with a foreign name. Life has changed for many people who were part of the mainstream, or thought they were.
At least those who died on 9-11 got a sentence. Emil did not make a single mention of the threats Jews faced, both in the Bay Area and in the Arab press. Not suprising. Emil is a one note wonder, and boring at that. Its just not a very good column either.

Because no other paper is degraded enough to hire them?
