Feel Safer Yet?
NRO (National Review Online ^ | September 10, 2002 | Mark Krikorian

A year after the September 11 attacks, you would think our immigration system had significantly improved its ability to keep out those who want to kill our children.

You would be wrong.

To the conspiratorial mind, it would appear that Congress and the administration have been trying to tighten immigration controls just enough to placate public concerns over the threat posed by radical Islam on our shores, but not so much that immigration controls could actually work, since that would anger vocal political interests.

America is not safer because our politicians have put cheap, illegal immigrant labor(Republicans) and new voters (Democrats) created by massive illegal immigration ahead of national security.

Who cares if the borders are so porous, thousands of additional terrorists can easily enter the formerly sovereign United States? Big Brother is the only hope now. The government will have to watch everyone in the country because our leaders won't tighten the borders.

Actually I'm very impressed by the job our government is doing. How many people would have thought on 9/12/01 that a year later we would have not had a single follow-up attack by Al Qaeda on American soil (with the possible exception of the anthrax attack)? The real story is the shoe that didn't drop.

So, lemme see if I have this right.... it is only the people who might scurry across the border who possess evil intent. Everyone else who enters our country by boat or plane is pure of heart and wouldn't dream of harming America. Is that about right ?

I agree. They are effective at their job as I am at mine. My job is to keep all the polar bears out of Florida.

On Thursday the UN is coming to the Wintergarden at the WFC where I work. They are clearing out all the little people. They are closing all streets and the ferries to NJ, all people must go home before 4pm! What an Honor for myself to be ejected from my consulting job so the Goons from the UN army can invade ground Zero! The NERVE!!!

I feel like a fly. This is amazing. I am sick. What a tribute.

Visas, border security and massive illegal immigration are all part of the same problem. We are supposed to be at war against unidentified terrorists and yet we keep allowing our borders to remain open. I happen to believe it's suicidal.

So, what do you propose we do, build our own Iron Curtain ... or curtains one to south and to the north ? Then guard it with a border patrol army ? Does that seem like America to you ?

I propose what others have suggested. We crack down at the borders and use the military to patrol and intercept trespassers. The military has to train. Let it train along the borders. We also need to stop issuing student visas until we can implement a reliable tracking system. Yes, I do think we can build walls and fences in many areas of the border. We did so in Southern California and it helped tremendously.

We also need to prosecute employers who hire illegal immigrants. If they can't get jobs, they won't come here. Those who hire illegal immigrants should face serious jail time and loss of houses and other assets.

Also, when illegal immigrants are stopped by law enforcement, those people should immediately be shipped out. Many law enforcement officers have told me they discover illegals, call INS, and are told, "Let them go."

You ask me if this is my idea of America. The United States has immigration laws and we've had them since our founding. They were enforced for nearly two hundred years. MY American citizenship means nothing if any foreigner can walk into my country and get a job, public assistance, medical care and education without the slightest legal authorization for his presence.

I'm getting sick and tired of people acting like we just invented immigration laws in America. Hell, we used to refuse entry at Ellis Island if foreigners were sick when they got here.

In 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower, a five-star general and hero of WWII in Europe, ordered the round-up of illegal aliens. More than 5,000 were rounded up the first day. When these people realized we were serious, the began to leave in very large numbers. Within three years, more than 3 million illegal immigrants had left this country. Most of them left voluntarily.

Do you think we let people wander into the United States by the millions during World War II? I thought we were fighting an open-ended war for civilization. That's what we were told. We were told we would be hit again and harder. The reaction of the State Department is to allow more than 100,000 more Middle Easterners to enter the United States in the past year. Visas are handed out like candy.

To those who say, "We made it a year with no further attacks," I say these Muslim extremists are patient people and they will bide their time but you can bet they will try again and it will probably be more deadly.

I won't feel safe until all the PC bull is out of the public dialog. Almost no-one dares mention that Islamicists are at the heart of the problem (FR and a few radio talk show hosts excepted).

The more the "experts" protect me, the less protected I become. All they are doing is stripping us of our freedom and raping our wallets.

You forgot the immigration lottery, now that was a really bright idea and instead of doing away with it, they kept it going! We're just inviting another attack, IMHO!

Cool! We just about have the Manatee problem whipped up here in North Dakota, too.

Don't know if we could have done it without the National Guard at the airport.....What do they do with all those nail clippers, anyway?

When did polar bears kill 3,000 Floridians?
