Regardless of your libertarian-bashing mentality, this is probably just some nutjob who can't keep his head on straight.

Not just any nutjob. He is (was) the officially annointed LP candidate for governer of California. One may safely assume he didn't tumble out of a dumpster yesterday, stagger into California LP headquarters, and stagger out bearing the LP's standard.

Influential libertarian Californians have watched him over the years, liked what they saw, and thought to themselves, "Here's a candidate who has persuasive ability, somone who can represent the best the LP has to offer the citizens of California."

Or maybe he did tumble out of a dumpster, stagger into LP headquarters sucking on a doobie the size of a firelog, and announce his entry saying, "Awwwwriiiight, Dudes! That's killer weeeeed! Does 'LP' stand for: 'Let's Party'? That's what I'm sayin'!"

If so, he likely was made candidate for governor by acclamation.

You could easily write social and political commentary for a living, Kevin.

So why are you pinging me to this? he's not MY candidate. I am not a party member. I have a whole lot of libertarian leanings but I am much more Constitutionalist. I didn't even know the LP's candidate. However, bash away, Kevin. Let the rest of the world see just what a jacka$$ you really are. And I think everyone knows just who it is uses the jacka$$ as their party symbol...

BTW, u gonna whine to the AM that I violated your rights by hurting your widdle feelings?

Granted, although he was a relative unknown (except in Orange County, CA) until the last convention when he announced his candidacy. There were several candidates for the endorsement, and Gary won out, partly because a more credible candidate was registered as "declines to state" rather than "Libertarian", and was therefore ineligible.

And no, he wasn't chosen by acclamation based on being stoned. The Libertarian Party chooses its candidates for major offices at Convention by majority vote, after hearing from the contenders in writing and in speech, and Copeland presented himself well at the time.
