Ten men planned to attack U.S., Israeli targets to be tried in Jordan

Jordan's military court will place 10 men on trial Wednesday on counts of conspiring to carry out attacks against U.S. and Israeli targets and possessing arms, officials said Sunday.

According to AP, the 10 - all men aged between 22 and 55 - have no links to Osama bin Laden, Jordanian officials said.

But prime suspect Waiel al-Shalabi, 29, allegedly received training in bin Laden-run camps in Afghanistan, the officials added. Al-Shalabi, a Palestinian-Jordanian born in Kuwait, fled the American bombing on bin Laden's stronghold in Tora Bora, Afghanistan, in December, the officials said.

The court will formally indict the 10 accused Wednesday on four counts, including conspiring to carry out terrorist attacks and possessing automatic weapons, the officials said.

Al-Shalabi was detained March 4 as Jordanian intelligence interrogated him apparently in another case, the officials said. In April, an al-Shalabi assistant identified as Omar Kurdi, 38, allegedly developed another plan involving cross-border attacks against targets in Israel, the officials said.

So many of these little stories appearing in the foreign news--if you added them all together, it would seem like a really huge, organized plot to attack the west. However, were it not for you posting them here, most of us would never hear about the majority of these stories.

When reading all these articles, it becomes clear that none of us should feel safe in our world. There are a lot of people with a lot of resources that want us dead. Fortunately, many of them do not (yet) possess the skills necessary to accomplish this and end up in some courtroom or another in countries around the world.

Meanwhile, so many in this country (the primary target) think 9/11 was it, that there will be no more attempts. I think they are so very sadly mistaken.

The world is never safe from these people. I don't know if they can manage a large attack like 9/11, but they will certainly try.

We must stay vigilant.
